We are dedicated to producing exemplary physicians
who are committed to life long learning and wellbeing

Our Mission
The Florida State University College of Medicine Office of Graduate Medical Education will foster programs that provide optimal clinical learning environments to develop exemplary physicians who independently practice patient-centered health care; commit to life-long learning and wellbeing; and lead their specialties and communities, especially through compassionate service to vulnerable populations.
Our Statement
The Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine (COM) is the Sponsoring Institution for programs in Graduate Medical Education (GME). FSU COM is fully committed and assumes ultimate responsibility for all GME programs. The COM will provide the necessary administrative, educational, financial, human and other resources necessary to support all sponsored GME programs. The mission of the COM supports programs that enable our residents and fellows to become independent physicians, scholars, and leaders who optimize the health, and wellness of patients and families by providing safe, high-quality patient care.
The COM is an institution committed to the education of individuals involved in health care and biomedical research. The COM does this by sponsoring programs in undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education and in biomedical research. The COM is supported in this endeavor and authorized to conduct GME programs under the rules of the Florida State University Board of Trustees and with full support of the President of the Florida State University, and the Dean of the COM. Programs are organized and administered by employees of the COM. The teaching faculty and staff of the various GME programs are under the direction of individuals with appointments in the COM.
In support of its vision, the institution is committed to excellence in education, patient care and research and will provide an ethical and scholarly environment for these activities. The Associate Dean – GME/Designated Institutional Official (DIO) has full authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of all GME programs. Through the DIO, the institution will ensure substantial compliance with all requirements of the various accrediting bodies.
To provide effective educational experiences for learners that lead to measurable achievement of educational outcomes, the institution will provide appropriate clinical venues for education through agreements with approved healthcare partners. Therein, the institution will provide guidance and supervision of learners, while facilitating their personal and professional development, to further ensure that the patient care provided by learners is safe and appropriate.
This “Statement of Commitment” is supported by the governing authority, the Graduate Medical Education Committee, administration, faculty, and the medical staff.
