FSU College of Medicine & Mayo Clinic Jacksonville Joint Research Fellowship Program 

This prestigious program is a collaboration with our colleagues at the Mayo Clinic in Florida, Division of Research in Jacksonville. This program offers a unique opportunity for medical students to develop research skills in a dynamic clinical research environment. 

Selected recipients receive a $6,000 award and are matched with a Mayo Clinic mentor for on-site research participation. Fellowships are limited and competitive. 

Who is eligible

This fellowship program is designed for FSU medical students who are in good academic standing and want to participate in research during the summer between their first and second year. 

The program is specifically designed for first-year medical students who want to gain experience in clinical research. Clinical research includes the study of human health to understand, prevent, diagnose and treat diseases and health conditions. 

The program attendance dates are mid-May to early August. Research areas of focus include a variety of specialties, such as cardiology, oncology and surgery.

 

All supporting documents must be submitted via Qualtrics by the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Statement of Intent
The SOI should not be longer than 2 pages, double spaced. Please be sure to answer all the below prompts.

  • Describe your past research, academic, and/or community experiences that shaped your interest in research and provide at least one example of what you learned.

  • What do you hope to learn from the program that would contribute to your professional growth?

Selection Process: The number of fellowships is limited. Selection is based on evaluation criteria. Decisions are usually announced in mid-November.

The proposed work is completed in the summer between the first and second year of medical school. All fellowship recipients will present their work in a short format to a College of Medicine audience later that fall semester.
