The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine provides medical education through multiple courses and activities.
- Faculty from The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine serve as course instructors and BSSM faculty teach throughout the four-year medical education curriculum.
- The Department is a leader in the college in the development of service learning. BSSM faculty direct service learning electives, serve as advisors to medical student service organizations and serve as Learning Community (LC) advisors where they mentor service learning projects.
- The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine has a commitment to the school's mission to recruit a diverse medical student body. Teaching efforts for the College of Medicine Outreach Programs include lecturing in the Medical Scholar Honors Seminar, participation in the Summer Institute for high school students, and serving as research mentors for the Bridge to Medicine Masters program.
