Throughout her career, Ana Maria Lopez, MD, MPH, FACP, has focused on increasing access to cancer care and preventing cancer suffering through translational cancer prevention and treatment research that focus on the care of women and underserved populations. The emphasis of her research has been on innovative applications of technology to facilitate disease prevention and health care delivery. Dr. Lopez has been continuously funded since her fellowship in medical oncology. Dr. Lopez has authored or co-authored over 60 peer reviewed publications and numerous book chapters and invited articles. Dr. López is professor of medicine, pathology, and public health. She serves as founding medical director of the Arizona Telemedicine Program at the University of Arizona.

 Yvonne T. Maddox, Ph.D., is the Acting Director of the Institute. Dr. Maddox is currently the Deputy Director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).

As a cardiovascular physiologist, Dr. Maddox has received many honors and awards, including the Presidential Distinguished Executive Rank Award, Presidential Meritorious Executive Rank Award, DHHS Career Achievement Award, Public Health Service Special Recognition Award, DHHS Secretary’s Award, NIH Director’s Award, National Down Syndrome Society Champion of Change Award, and Research Down Syndrome Foundation Light the Way Award. 

 Dr. Jeannette E. South-Paul joined the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh in July 2001, as the Department Chair after serving for 22 years as a family physician in the U.S. Army. She served as the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Services for six years prior to her military retirement. She was appointed the Andrew W. Mathieson University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Professor of Family Medicine in April of 2005.

Dr. South-Paul maintains an active family medicine practice to include maternity care at the UPMC Matilda Theiss Clinic. Her research interests include maternal child health and fitness and evaluating cultural competence in clinicians and trainees.
