Dr. Maja Delibasic is honored to serve as Founding Program Director, FSU College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program at Cape Coral Hospital, part of Lee Health, and to join the FSU College of Medicine as Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences. She was born in Europe and completed medical school at the University of Nofi Sad in Serbia, followed by residency in internal medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago.

Upon graduation, she joined the teaching faculty at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in 2013 where she served as core faculty, primary care rotation coordinator and clerkship site director, before being named as the associate program director in 2018.  She fell in love with teaching and graduate medical education from the beginning of her career.  She hopes residents see her as an energetic and efficient attending that is leading them subtly toward the right clinical decisions, leaving them with sufficient autonomy to make independent clinical judgments.

Also, she completed a Scholars for Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellowship at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2015. Dr. Delibasic is board-certified in internal medicine and obesity medicine.

In her free time, she enjoys watching tennis and cheering for Novak Djokovic, exploring new places in Cape Coral by bike with her husband and son, cooking healthy, and enjoying Florida beaches with a book aside.

Dr. Madeline Deutsch is thrilled to be part of the Inaugural Lee Health Internal Medicine residency program as associate program director. Dr. Deutsch grew up in Tampa. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2010 as a Ben Franklin Scholar. Dr. Deutsch returned home to Tampa where she researched Parkinson's disease and Friedreich's ataxia at USF and co-authored the book Parkinson's Disease: A Guide to Medical Management. She attended USF Health Morsani College of Medicine for her medical school training, and created and directed what became the annual tradition, the 'BANDaids for BRIDGE' talent show fundraiser, in support of the USF student-run free medical clinic, the BRIDGE clinic. Dr. Deutsch was featured in a front-page profile in the Tampa Bay Times and was the recipient of the Tampa Bay Business Journal 2014 Healthcare Hero Award and the 2015 Tampa General Hospital Medical Staff Humanitarian Award for the success and creation of this fundraiser. After graduating from USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, she completed internal medicine residency training at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California.

Following her training, she was an academic hospitalist at Jacobi Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. While at Jacobi, Dr. Deutsch revamped the board review curriculum, was active in medical student education as a clinical skills preceptor, and created the Jacobi Medical Center COVID-19 Hospitalist Protocol. She received an Outstanding Educator Award from the Jacobi house staff in June 2020 before moving with her husband back to their home state of Florida. She was most recently on faculty at UCF College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and an academic hospitalist at Naples Community Hospital. Dr. Deutsch is passionate about resident well-being, board review education, and mentoring young physicians and medical students.

Dr. Hannah James graduated as an M.D. from Tay Nguyen Universite Ecole de Medecine in Vietnam, where she received a full-tuition scholarship after earning the National High School Biology Champion award. After graduation, she worked as a general practitioner in Vietnam and then worked as a GI physician. Dr. James was an active member of the Vietnamese Gastroenterology Physicians and was a consultant for setting up GI Endoscopy Clinics and supporting GI physicians in rural areas. 

She was also active in volunteering to do annual health checks to serve the impoverished populations and worked to eliminate health disparities and barriers in Southern Vietnam with multiple church-based nonprofit organizations during weekends.

While being trained as an IM resident in Capital Health, NJ, she served as the class wellness leader, organizing wellness meetings and resident wellness events. These included the semi-annual Resident Program Outdoor Picnics, resident and staff holiday gatherings, resident Tennis Club, Board Review Support Group, and the American Heart Association Heart Walk leadership and fundraiser.

After completion of residency, she joined the Lee Health Physician Group in Cape Coral as an ABIM board-certified primary care physician.  Dr. James focuses on preventative medicine and promotes a healthy lifestyle.  She is currently an active member of VietMD which supports Vietnamese physicians who are immigrants or in training in the USA. As a physician, she supports Vietnamese patients who have language barriers to the US healthcare system(s) and provides health advice to patients at Tinh Quang Vietnamese Temple in North Fort Myers, where she lives.

Dr. James enjoys raising her family and gardening, including orchids, tropical fruit trees, and beekeeping.  Her passion is for training residents to become qualified future physicians. She supports diversity, inclusion and strives to overcome health care disparities for all.
