FSU and SMH offer new Palliative Care Fellowship

The Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine and Sarasota Memorial Health Care System are partnering to offer the area’s first Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. 

It is one of 13 approved sites in Florida where board-certified physicians can acquire advanced training to address the many medical and pyscho-social issues that accompany serious illness or end-of-life care.

FSU College of Medicine to Hold White Coat Ceremony for PA Students

 Members of the Florida State University College of Medicine’s third physician assistant class will receive white coats this week in a traditional ceremony symbolizing professional competence and compassion.
 
In 2018, the college’s School of Physician Assistant Practice welcomed its first class of 40 PA students. This year’s class comprises 59 students.
 
Physician assistants provide another layer of primary-care providers capable of strengthening the College of Medicine’s commitment to improving access to care in Florida and beyond. They work as part of a health-care team under a physician’s supervision. Students in the FSU PA program spend 27 months learning within the same network of faculty physicians who teach FSU medical students.
 
The ceremony will take place:

Tallahassee Community College President Jim Murdaugh has agreed to designate three acres of land on the southwest edge of the TCC campus as the home site for a new Dale Mabry Air Field Museum. TCC's Appleyard Drive campus is situated on the former army airfield. As chair, Chuck Wells and Tallahassee's Dale Mabry Army Air Field Museum Inc.'s board oversaw efforts to establish the museum and plans to establish a complex on the property by 2024. Wells is also the program director for science and research development in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine.
