1972

Alex Sanchez, M.D., is a consultant in occupational medicine; medical director for Clariant Corp. in Charlotte, North Carolina; and medical director for JPS Composites in Anderson, South Carolina. “My wife, Linda, and I live on Lake Norman, just 25 miles north of where I completed my residency (Carolinas Medical Center) in 1978,” he said. “I was an assistant residency director for the family medicine program 1978-1982. I then went into emergency medicine at Mercy Hospital, where I was chief of ED 1982-1989. In 1989 I started a career in occupational medicine and became the medical director for Springs Industries in Fort Mill, South Carolina. I practiced clinical medicine until 2005.” Posted 10.01.2017.

1974

Abi Rayner, M.D., is board-certified (vocational registration) and self-employed, practicing as a locum tenens in rural hospitals throughout New Zealand. She completed a fellowship in a new specialty in New Zealand – rural hospital medicine. Posted 8.7.2019.

Bruce Slater, M.D., MPH, is a board-certified internalist. He previously served in the National Health Service Corps in a rural New Mexico underserved area; was the physician to Peace Corps volunteers in West and later East Africa; taught and practiced medicine and clinical informatics at the University of Wisconsin; became board-certified in clinical informatics; served as chief medical information officer at a teaching hospital in Madison, Wisconsin; worked for an EHR vendor; and consulted in informatics at Cleveland Clinic. He is now retired and became a certified master naturalist. He enjoys hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains with his wife. Posted 8.7.2019.

John Gale, M.D., sent the following update: “Retired (probably!). Practiced peds and adult psych in private practice, HMO (Kaiser), and community mental health clinics for 30 years in Portland area; locum tenens in Christchurch, New Zealand, in winter 2014. Have also done some admin, teaching and volunteer work. Married, two adult kids. Enjoy outdoor activities; e.g., skiing at Mt. Hood and boating/salmon fishing at Oregon coast.” Posted 7.16.2018.

Michael S. Marsh, M.D., is nearing retirement after serving six years in the Navy as a family physician and 32 years in Dayton, Virginia, as a family physician in a rural setting. He and his wife, Jane, have three sons and a daughter. Posted 10.01.2017.

1979

Richard Sheridan, M.D., retired on March 31 from neonatology practice in Tampa, where he was affiliated with Mednax. He continues to volunteer with Healthy Start and as a USA/NCAA Swim official.  Posted 2.02.2021.

1982

John and Karen Woody, M.D., live in Orlando and graduated three daughters this year: Casey, 30, anesthesia residency, University of Pennsylvania; Kelli, 27, family medicine, UF; and Lindsey, 25, UCF College of Medicine Class of 2018. John continues as chief anesthesiologist and medical director at Surgery Center of Lakeland Hills Boulevard. He’s also an assistant professor of anesthesia at the UCF College of Medicine. Posted 7.16.2018.

John D. Woody, M.D., is an anesthesiologist at the Surgery Center of Lakeland, Florida. He is the chief of the anesthesiology department and the medical director and an assistant professor of anesthesiology at UCF. He and his wife, Karen, have three daughters, all of whom are in medical residency programs or medical school. Posted 10.01.2017.

1983

W. Kevin Broyles, M.D., recently moved to Atlanta after serving eight years in La Paz, Bolivia, South America. He is an urgent-care physicians with Wellstar, and also serves as medical director for annual wellness visits. Broyles is the volunteer global medical director for the non-profit relief and development organization, HOPE worldwide.  Posted 2.02.2021.

Paul Deci, M.D., is the Psychiatry Residency Program director and clinical professor of psychiatry at Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine/Psychiatry Residency Program. He also serves as the VA site director at the Orlando VA Medical Center and is a professor of psychiatry at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. Posted 8.7.2019.

Clifton Craig Wyrosdick, M.D., died in February in Pace, Florida, where he had practiced as a family physician for more than 27 years. Posted 8.7.2019.

Joseph P. Berley, M.D., is president of Precision Occupational Health Management, Inc., an occupational medicine/health and welfare benefits consulting practice for mid to large sized companies headquartered in the U.S. Posted 4.01.2018.

Kim Landry, M.D., is the chief medical officer for Lifeguard Ambulance Service in Bay and Santa Rosa counties. He is also the medical director for Leon County Emergency Medical Services and the Tallahassee Fire Department, and serves as a physician with Excalibur Telemedical Services in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Posted 8.7.2019.

Shelly Holmström, M.D., has been promoted to professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She also was elected vice chair of District XII of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Posted 8.7.2019.

Woodward Burgert III, M.D., is the medical director of UNC Family Medicine at Pittsboro, North Carolina, after completing a family medicine residency at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 2002. Posted 10.01.2017.
