We are dedicated to serving diverse communities and building strong patient-physician relationships, preparing residents to deliver evidence-based, high quality, and cost-conscious care while assuming leadership roles in evolving healthcare systems. At St. Vincent's Family Medicine Residency Program, we are committed to delivering an individualized education experience for each resident’s professional goals while providing a comprehensive, full spectrum, family medicine experience. Our residents graduate as skilled physician-leaders, equipped to care for patients and families of all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and cultural traditions. Established in 1972, our three-year program has a long legacy of excellence and welcomes a diverse class of 12 residents each year. We are fully accredited by the ACGME Family Medicine Residency Review Committee and, since 2004, have proudly held Osteopathic Recognition accreditation, reflecting our commitment to evidence-based, holistic, patient-centered care.
Starting in your first year, you will collaborate with faculty advisors to create an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). This allows you to structure your electives and customize your training to fit your specific clinical interests and career aspirations.
You will learn from a collaborative, diverse team of core and adjunct faculty who bring over 100 years of combined teaching experience. Their expertise spans a wide range of specialties, including obstetrics, pediatrics, sports medicine, clinical psychology, geriatrics, and general surgery.
Our residents have a proven track record of matching into their top-choice fellowships in highly sought-after fields like Women’s Health, Sports Medicine, and Academic Medicine. For those entering practice directly, graduates successfully secure diverse roles nationwide, including as hospitalists, outpatient clinicians, and ER/urgent care providers.
The St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Residency Program is a key part of Ascension St. Vincent’s, the nation’s largest nonprofit Catholic health system, which was founded in 1916. The program operates within a robust healthcare network that includes four area hospitals including Riverside, Southside, Clay County, and St. Johns County, as well as various urgent care and ambulatory centers. The residency is dedicated to comprehensive, full-spectrum care and patient continuity. By emphasizing evidence-based medicine, the program ensures its curriculum is constantly updated with the latest guidelines, preventative health recommendations, and treatment plans.
