FSU Medical Alumni Board

FSU MED alumni logoMission: to empower our alumni to engage in the activities of the college and to provide guidance, resources and support to our students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Floyd Jaggears M.D., a Program in Medical Sciences alum from the class of T-'83, was chosen this past spring to serve as the second elected chair of the College of Medicine FSU Medical Alumni Board. The board contains alumni of both the College of Medicine and the Program in Medical Sciences (PIMS), the predecessor of Florida State’s four-year medical school.

The alumni board will meet twice a year – at the annual alumni reunion in April and on the weekend of one home football game each year (dates to be determined). Examples of duties the board include:

  • Assisting the College of Medicine’s efforts to maintain an accurate alumni database. Having accurate data ensures the college’s ability to share news about alumni practice location and specialty and allows the college to reach alumni with important news, announcements and events of potential interest.

Currently, there are 1,255 graduates of the Florida State College of Medicine. In addition, the college counts more than 800 PIMS graduates as an important part of its legacy. The College of Medicine’s mission builds upon the PIMS mission, and including PIMS alumni provides an invaluable resource in guiding the alumni board’s goals and objectives.

Jim McNeill, assistant dean for development, and Chelsea Shackelford, alumni relations and special events coordinator, assist Jaggears with alumni board management and other activities.
