Sarasota Memorial Hospital
SMH is one of the largest healthcare systems in Florida, with the main hospital being a 900 bed, level 2 trauma and comprehensive stroke center. Sarasota Memorial also serves as the region's health care safety net, and Sarasota County's only trauma center. SMH also offers obstetrical services, a neonatal intensive care unit, an inpatient pediatrics unit and psychiatric services for patients of all ages. SMH recently opened a second hospital in Venice to provide the same high-quality care to our more southern county residents.
Sarasota Memorial is the only hospital in Florida to have consistently earned the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid's highest 5-star rating for overall quality and safety since the rating system launched in 2016.
Other accolades include being named among the World’s Best Hospitals in 2026 by Newsweek. SMH has been recognized on the list every year since the rankings began in 2019. SMH has also earned the Exceptional Workplace Award by Gallup, and Forbes has recognized SMH among Best-in-State Employers, Best Employers for Women, America’s Best Large Employers, and Top Hospitals in the United States.
Working at SMH means you get to work as a part of an amazing team. Magnet Nursing is a recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is the most prestigious distinction for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. Sarasota Memorial first earned designation in 2003 and has remained the only hospital in the region with Magnet recognition for the past 20 years. Fewer than 1% of hospitals in the U.S. have received the recognition five times or more as SMH-Sarasota has.
