Re-envisioning Elder Care Conference

The Re-envisioning Elder Care Conference is a gathering of colleagues and professionals interested in approaches to enhance the quality of care and life of older adults in the post-acute and long-term care continuum. The Department of Geriatrics has hosted this conference for four years with similar conferences held prior.

At previous conferences, nationally-recognized experts have focused on a range of both clinical and policy related issues such as the evolving role of the nurse practitioner and physician assistants, transitions of care, nursing home staffing, caregiver burnout, and a response to the National Imperative to Improve Nursing Home Quality report. Past topics have also included physician influence on complex decision making and team functioning, effective infection control programs, treatment of depression in older adults, and antipsychotic medication reduction programs.

This year, we partnered with the Nova Southeastern University GWEP to host a virtual conference on September 8, 2023 from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm (Eastern Time). National leaders addressed the following topics:

  • New treatments for dementia
  • Infection control in long-term care
  • Dizziness and vertigo in older adults
  • Technology and patient care
  • Evolving workforce solutions in post-acute and long-term care medicine
  • New initiatives in long-term care from the Moving Forward Coalition
