Teaching the Principles of Interdisciplinary Care

Interprofessional collaboration is considered to be one of many successful health care innovations for improved patient outcomes and quality of care. It is a new and important curricular component in various health profession schools. This pilot study used an interprofessional instructional activity found in the Modified Use of Simulation in Teams for Students in Training (MUST-SIT) together© in a simulation format to introduce teamwork skills to students with a brief intervention. Interdisciplinary student groups of four from social work, pharmacy, medicine, and nursing used the principles learned in the activities to complete a geriatrics assessment on a standardized patient.
