Anesthesiology Interest Group (AIG)

Mission:

The mission of Anesthesiology Interest Group (AIG) at the Florida State University College of Medicine is to promote education, communication, advocacy, research, and networking among students and physicians. To promote the increase of anesthesiologists practicing in rural areas both nationally and globally. To understand the role of anesthesiology in the United States opioid epidemic. To educate the medical community on the various roles of general and subspecialty anesthesiologist. To clarify any anesthesiology procedure misconceptions to the layperson and healthcare community. To promote diversity and inclusion in the field of anesthesiology. 

 

Objectives/Purpose:

To promote education, communication, advocacy, research, and networking among students and physicians. Educate medical students about anesthesiology through lectures, discussions, research presentations, and informal social events. Provide opportunities for medical students to learn technical skills inherent to the practice of anesthesiology through hands-on workshops and physician shadowing programs. Facilitate the mentorship of medical students by pairing interested students with faculty members and residents. Provide knowledge to the Florida State University College of Medicine on the implications of the absence of anesthesiologists in rural health care settings. To educate the medical and non-medical community about the role of anesthesiology in combating the opioid epidemic.
