There, the staff members pose as patients in local doctor's offices, where third-year students to diagnose the ailments they pretend to be suffering from. This allows students to go through a simulated version of what diagnosing real patients' maladies will be like.

At the college's second-annual fudge cook-off, over 200 students, faculty, staff and visitors sampled thirteen varieties of fudge and voted for their favorite. Each vote cost one dollar, and FSUCares raised over $875 through vote sales and a fudge auction. All proceeds went to Hogar Quietud, a home for destitute seniors in Tamaulipas, Mexico, where students have volunteered in years past.

Two FSU College of Medicine students, Tanya Anim and Komal D'Souza, have been awarded National Health Service Corps scholarships -- highly competitive government awards that cover the full cost of tuition and fees for all remaining years of medical school. Anim and D'Souza will spend a minimum of two years after graduation in a high-need medical area providing medical care to underserved populations.

On Monday, Nov. 2, the Children's Miracle Networks at Shands Hospital at UF, who are the official recipients of FSU's Dance Marathon's proceeds, presented the FSU College of Medicine with a check for $182,456.42 -- half the earnings of the 2009 fundraiser.
