
Curriculum
Educational Conferences
Friday afternoons are blocked for didactics. Didactics are multidisciplinary and include the following learning activities:
- Core Family Medicine lectures (adult, pediatric, women’s health, and behavioral health topics)
- Workshops
- POCUS training
- Procedural training (includes OMT)
- Inpatient case presentations (by residents)
- Balint
- Evidence-based medicine activities (i.e. journal club, lectures, library training, etc.)
- Board review
- Business of medicine lectures
- Webinars or online learning modules
- Team building exercises
Educational Goals
Provide residents with the skills and knowledge to:
- Prevent, diagnose, & treat medical conditions spanning the full spectrum of family medicine
- Commit to lifelong learning & continuous personal & professional development
- Comprehend the impact of social determinants on health, to mitigate health disparities, to care for patients from vulnerable populations, and to recognize the impact of public policy on health
- Lead healthcare teams & utilize community resources to optimize patient care
- Prioritize, support, & promote quality improvement, & deliver high-value patient care that incorporates patient safety principles
- Actively participate in scholarship during residency & beyond
Resources
Residents are provided free access to the FSU College of Medicine library including UpToDate. The program pays for resident membership to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) which allows free access to the American Family Physician and Family Practice Management journals plus many other free or low cost educational resources. Residents receive a $2K per year educational allowance helping them to attend conferences or purchase additional educational materials.

^The Geriatrics rotation includes home visits, rounding at the nursing home, and hospice
#Away rotations are fully funded by the program
@Elective options: cardiology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, oncology, general surgery, ENT, ED, inpatient medicine, obstetrics, sports medicine, pharmacy, public health, research, behavioral health, faculty development, leadership, global health, and more
