Curriculum

The Florida State University EMS Fellowship at Sarasota Memorial Hospital is a one year fellowship with graduated responsibility goal of preparing an EMS physician for independent practice. The fellow trains within a variety of EMS systems including 911-based systems, aeromedical transport, interfacility transport, and critical care transport.

Educational Conferences

There is a weekly didactic session involving the fellow and faculty members covering the entire core curriculum of EMS medicine as outlined by the core content of EMS to prepare the fellow EMS boards and independent practice. (The Core Content of EMS Medicine)

Educational Goals

To provide a broad-based program of graduate medical education in multiple clinical settings designed to facilitate independent practice, board certification, and creation of outstanding EMS physicians.

Rotation Schedule

The fellowship rotation schedule consists of a longitudinal 12 month period of EMS medicine. The fellow will rotate through all sites throughout the 12 month. There is no specific assignment during these months with the exception of assigned to shifts in the field, helicopter, etc.

Simulation

The Sarasota Memorial healthcare system has a dedicated research and education Institute. This is designed to promote collaboration, discovery and innovation in medical education and research. This is a five story 80,000 square-foot facility that houses Sarasota memorials expanding clinical research division, clinical and graduate medical, patient programs, medical library, and a state-of-the-art simulation center designed for hands-on training. The fellow will participate in simulation sessions on a regular basis.
