Why choose us

You should move to Walton County, Florida (one of the most beautiful and amazing places to live in the United States) if you want an innovative educational experience provided by an amazing and diverse faculty, you value work-life balance (No Call!), you want to be a part of a community that prioritizes service to others, and you want to be an outstanding family physician who is prepared to work in any environment in the world.

Our program is committed to preparing compassionate physicians who deliver the highest quality, 21st century, patient-centered medicine to communities of greatest need.

The program provides unique and individualized, community-based, resident physician education, utilizing teaching faculty who are compassionate, holistic, and dedicated to the teaching mission.

Program Aims

  • Graduate passionate family physicians who enjoy their profession and are eager to mentor and teach others
  • Graduate family physicians who are experts in delivering high quality patient-centered care to diverse populations especially the medically underserved
  • Graduate residents who pursue leadership roles in local, state or national organizations
  • 100% of our residents will achieve board certification upon graduation

About the Program

Residents receive a broad experience in family medicine, and have the ability to concentrate their electives on one or two domains, so that they are prepared to attend the fellowship or work in the environment of their choosing upon graduation. The program emphasizes developing competence to provide high quality outpatient care to a panel of patients and the Family Medicine Residency Clinic is the centerpiece of the resident educational experience.

The program also prioritizes delivering care to the underserved and constantly seeks novel methods to reach these patients. Residents have many dedicated family medicine clinic rotations in each academic year in order to maximize continuity with their patients and provide them the skills to be leaders of patient-centered medical home teams.

During all three years of training residents have longitudinal experiences in women’s health, procedures (including point-of-care ultrasound), health systems management, behavioral medicine, and underserved medicine. Residents will NOT take in-house call during all three years of training.  Why?  Because we don’t have to and we want residents to spend time outside of the hospital and clinic nurturing personal relationships, enjoying hobbies, and recharging.  A happy physician is a better physician.
