HOW-TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A SEAL AND A LOGO

Believe it or not, there is actually a difference between a logo and a seal... Yep, that's right those are two different graphic elements. It is particularly important to know the difference when it is used in association with a university or other formal institution. Read on for more details or download the quick reference here.

Seal: An emblem used to authenticate or certify official documents or products (most common for government and universities). At FSU the seal is used to represent the university as a whole, not just one college or school in particular.

Logo: A symbol comprised of symbols AND words, that represent an organization or brand. It typically includes text and an icon style image meant to represent the brand.
