Isabel Jimenez receives a Student Seminole Award at Leadership Awards Night 2021

Isabel

Isabel Jimenez is a determined, passionate, selfless individual who has overcome her own hardship of losing her mother to cancer and turning that tragedy into a blessing of support and hope for others. As a transfer student, coming into a very demanding STEM major, she had to work especially hard to catch up to her peers. She not only caught up, she exceeded expectations, specifically in her Experiential Learning (EL) activity. To date, Isabel has documented more than 2,600 EL hours! Most of those come from her service with Camp Kesem, a camp for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one to cancer, and with the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH) Cancer Center. It is obvious that Isabel is passionate about supporting people who are living with or being impacted by cancer. She has also shown tremendous growth, determination, perseverance, and maturity through her involvement. With Camp Kesem she started as a camper, became a camp counselor, joined FSU Camp Kesem as a member, and is now serving on the Executive Board. At TMH, she started out shadowing a physician, then became a volunteer, and now she is a paid employee working in the Emergency Room. Isabel is the epitome of resilience and determination. Even in the midst of struggle and hardship, she persevered and pushed forward to pursue her goals. She has shown discipline and determination by working hard and plugging into something she really cares about. Today she's leading her peers and encouraging them to get involved in the service she is so passionate about. Congratulations, Isabel!
