The 2021 President’s Undergraduate Humanitarian of the Year!

Maggie

Maggie Fitzsimons was nominated as the 2021 College of Medicine Humanitarian of the Year, for her commitment and dedication of service to the Epilepsy Foundation of North Florida, the Epilepsy Services Foundation, and Ronald McDonald House. Additionally, Maggie volunteered for the Medical Response Unit, the FSU Nole2Nole Program, and for UROP as a tutor for her peers. Maggie also spent many hours doing research in the department of Psychology. To date, she has completed more than 900 hours of service - all while maintaining a 4.00 GPA.  It is truly admirable how Maggie took something very personal to her and used it to help others. Her progression of involvement is also commendable, starting out as a volunteer, then starting a collegiate chapter of the Epilepsy Foundation at FSU and USF, and assisting with awareness and fundraising efforts. She went on to become a nationally certified Seizure First-Aid Instructor and so far has certified more than 100 people!  Maggie was among a select group of impressive students, nominated by their respective colleges, to be considered for the President’s Undergraduate Humanitarian of the Year award. We are so excited to announce that Maggie was chosen to receive this special recognition!  Congratulations, Maggie!
