HealthCare has received notice of initial accreditation, moving one step closer to being able to welcome new

residents.

"This collaborative effort between the FSU College of Medicine and Tallahassee Memorial will ensure a pipeline of

surgeons to provide care for individuals in the greater Tallahassee area in the future," said Joan Meek, associate

dean for graduate medical education.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's Residency Review Committee announced the decision Friday.

The program, when fully operational, will train two residents per class over a five-year period. The initial accreditation also allows for two residents completing a general surgery preliminary year.

"The program will draw upon the talents of the general surgeons and surgical subspecialists in the Tallahassee

community to teach the residents," Meek said.
