Ms. Kaitlyn Odom promoted to Clinical Program Coordinator
We are pleased to announce the promotion of Ms. Kaitlyn Odom from Program Associate to Clinical Program Coordinator in our Department.
Kaitlyn joined FSU in the Fall of 2014 and joined the Department of Family Medicine & Rural Health in the Fall of 2015. She moved away in the Spring of 2017 and returned to Tallahassee later that year, working in another FSU department. We were thrilled to be able to hire Kaitlyn back to our Department in the Summer of 2018. She has been with FSU for over seven years and with the Department of Family Medicine & Rural Health for five years now. Kaitlyn has proven to be an exceptional employee who goes above and beyond in providing superior staff support to our faculty cheerfully, with a smile, and with the best can-do attitude. She is versatile, creative, and resourceful and no task is beyond her capabilities. Kaitlyn is a very strong team member and can easily fill in for all other staff members and provide seamless faculty and Department support. No task is beyond her capabilities and she is a highly and well-respected member of our Department. In November 2022, the FSU COM Faculty Council Executive Committee awarded Kaitlyn the very prestigious Exemplary Staff Award for 2021-2022, recognizing her excellence, continuous exceptional service, and contributions to the COM.
Kaitlyn earned her Bachelor of Science (Magna Cum Laude) from West Virginia University and her Master of Science from Liberty University. Kaitlyn has a keen interest in lifelong learning and has completed many of the certification programs offered by FSU, remaining engaged and furthering her professional development, all of which benefits the College of Medicine and our Department.
As Clinical Program Coordinator, Kaitlyn will assist in the development, management, and implementation of rural health programs for the College of Medicine and provide administrative support for multiple faculty members in our Department. In her role as Clinical Program Coordinator, Kaitlyn works closely with Dr. Kerwyn Flowers, Assistant Professor and Director of Rural Medical Education, in the development of programs in the areas of education, service, and research, assisting in daily management, planning, and coordination, also representing the rural program with partners within and outside the COM. She coordinates rural health events, trips, and activities and works closely with Dr. Flowers on medical student rural programs as they are developed and expanded. She serves as the link with students across all four years for rural program information, coordination, and management. In addition, Kaitlyn will also support Dr. Flowers in her role as Director of Clinical Programs.
Kaitlyn provides dedicated support for Dr. Susan LaJoie, Associate Professor. Dr. LaJoie runs the College of Medicine’s flag-ship rural health outreach program in Gadsden County, providing health services to over 2,000 children in six Gadsden School-Based Health Centers, fulfilling the mission of the College of Medicine.
Kaitlyn works closely with Dr. Tana Welch, Associate Professor of Medical Humanities in our Department. Dr. Welch is the Director of the Chapman Humanities and Arts in Medicine Program (CHAMP) and the Managing Editor for HEAL: Humanism Evolving through Arts and Literature.
In addition, Kaitlyn provides support to Dr. Stephen Quintero, Associate Professor and Medical Director of the School of Physician Assistant Practice at the College of Medicine.
Kaitlyn assumes responsibility for all Foundation accounting in our Department. She assists faculty with Canvas site builds, troubleshooting and course development as needed, providing support for electives taught by our faculty. She has been instrumental in assisting with training new staff, contributing towards developing a training manual to ensure goals and objectives are met during probationary period and beyond. Ms. Odom plans and arranges department functions, meetings, special events, strategic planning and faculty development programs, in addition to numerous other events. Ms. Odom has been an integral member of the team in promoting an atmosphere of teamwork in accomplishing the mission and goals of the Department of Family Medicine & Rural Health.
