Postdoctoral Scholar Presents Research on Adolescent Health at National Public Health Conference

Prince Addo

Postdoctoral Scholar Prince Addo attended the American Public Health Association (APHA) 2025 Annual Meeting & Expo in Washington, D.C., where he delivered two oral presentations on the long-term effects of adolescent behaviors on adult cardiovascular health.

In an Epidemiology Section session, Addo presented findings from his study, “Association Between Adolescent Sleep Health and Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Adulthood.” His research showed that adolescents with short sleep duration, late bedtimes, or multiple sleep problems face a significantly higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) as adults.

During another session, “Examining Cannabis Use Across Communities: Trends, Determinants, and Implications,” Addo discussed how adolescent binge-drinking, smoking, and marijuana use are linked to elevated CVD risk later in life.

Addo’s presentations underscored the importance of promoting healthy sleep habits and early prevention strategies to reduce substance use among youth and improve long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
