Nutrition & Mental Health: Practical Tips
A recent webinar, Nutrition & Mental Health: Practical Tips, examined the role of nutrition in pediatric mental health care, highlighting how deficiencies in key nutrients, including vitamin B12, vitamin B9 (folate), iron and vitamin D, may influence common childhood and adolescent mental health conditions.
The session outlined practical, evidence-informed approaches for clinical care and was held in collaboration with the Florida Pediatric Behavioral Health Collaborative and the FSU & Whole Child Leon Pediatric Behavioral Health Hub.
Led by Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist Yumi Kovic, M.D., and hosted by Department Chair Heather Flynn, Ph.D., the session provided a clinically grounded discussion of how nutrient deficiencies present in practice and how they can be effectively identified and managed. The presentation translated emerging evidence into actionable guidance, equipping clinicians with practical strategies for screening, counseling patients and families, and integrating nutrition-informed care into everyday pediatric mental health practice to make a tangible difference in patient outcomes.
