New Framework Aims to Strengthen Adult Asthma Self-Management
The Theory of Asthma Self-Management (TASM) offers a new framework for understanding how adults manage asthma and the factors that influence their respiratory health. The model links a person’s environment, life circumstances and health care experiences to the everyday actions that support asthma control.
In a new article, lead investigator Karen MacDonell, Ph.D., and podtdoctoral scholar Amy Hall describe how TASM was developed, outline its theoretical roots and explain how it builds on established self-care theory to advance modern asthma research. Their work highlights the theory’s relevance for guiding nursing practice and shaping future studies aimed at improving asthma outcomes and reducing preventable illness and death.
