Nagpal and Sheffler Awarded Grant for Gut-Brain Axis Research in Older Adults

We are pleased to share that the FSU Institute for Successful Longevity (ISL) has awarded a $25,000 Planning Grant to support a bold research project titled “Unraveling the Gut-Microbiome-Brain Axis Elements through Multi-Omics Assessments in Older Adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment.”
Spearheaded by Principal Investigator Ravinder Nagpal, MSc, Ph.D., from the FSU Anne Spencer Daves College, and BSSM Co-Principal Investigator Julia Sheffler, Ph.D., this project stood out to the 2025–2026 ISL Planning Grant Scientific Review Committee for its innovative, cross-disciplinary approach to understanding how gut health may influence brain function in aging adults.
By leveraging advanced multi-omics methods (genomics, transcriptomics, etc.), the team aims to uncover new insights into the biological pathways connecting the gut and brain, insights that could have far-reaching implications for cognitive health and aging.
Congratulations to Nagpal, Sheffler, and their research team on this well-deserved recognition and exciting opportunity!
