FSU Neuromodulation Awarded $3M DoD Grant to Revolutionize PTSD Treatment

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a $3 million, four-year grant to the FSU Neuromodulation research team to launch a clinical trial targeting post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Led by Co-Directors F. Andrew Kozel, M.D., and Kevin A. Johnson, Ph.D., the trial combines virtual reality mindfulness training with accelerated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy.
The study explores whether intensive TMS, administered five times daily over five days, can offer long-lasting relief for PTSD. All participants will receive active TMS treatment at some stage of the study, with follow-ups at one, three, and six months.
FSU’s team hopes this research will pave the way for faster, more effective PTSD therapies.
