Florida Establishes May 1st as Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Day

The IPRD team was honored to attend a press conference at the Florida Capitol organized by the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association. That same day, the Florida Senate adopted SR 1874, sponsored by Senator Rodriguez, officially recognizing May 1st as Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Day and affirming support for research that is transforming lives.
This marks a powerful milestone in Florida’s commitment to Prader-Willi Syndrome and all pediatric rare diseases. IPRD Director Pradeep Bhide, Ph.D., highlighted our clinical, research, and educational focus on rare conditions. IPRD Associate Director David Ledbetter, Ph.D., whose landmark work uncovered the genetic cause of PWS, joined fellow team members at this historic event.
