What do you like about HMSS?

My favorite thing about HMSS is the mentorship that is part of the program. I feel that I have people that I can look up to for advice, especially because the people older than me have probably gone through something similar in their academic career. Also, I like the abundance of service projects that HMSS carries out as I value service. Most important of all, I feel that HMSS is a great opportunity for me to help guide me to a career in medicine and because of that I want to give back as much as I can.

Why do you want to go into medicine?

I want to go into medicine because as a subject medicine fascinates me and the more I get closer to my goal of becoming a physician, the more interested I am in the subjects that I study and discuss. In addition, I want to help people not just in the hospital or in a private practice, but I want to impact the lives of many in other ways. I want to create a team of doctors and professionals to help lobby and discuss healthcare policies with Florida’s Congressmen, with the ultimate goal of ensuring healthcare reaches those in my local community, as well as throughout the state. Many aspects of medicine interest me, but what interests me the most is the struggle of trying to diagnose a patient with a certain sickness. This is why I want to pursue a career in medicine.
