IPRD Recruitment at the National Society of Genetic Counselors

NSGC

Our team was proud to represent the Florida Institute for Pediatric Rare Diseases at the National Society of Genetic Counselors Annual Conference (NSGC) in Seattle. This included David H. Ledbetter, PhD, FACMG, Saanchi Shah, PhD, LCGC, MS, MPH, Beth Jiorle, and Andrew Faucett (consultant).

For us, this year’s NSGC was all about recruitment — connecting with passionate genetic counselors and leaders ready to help us grow something truly transformative in Florida. While we shared updates on Sunshine Genetics, the state’s genomic newborn screening pilot, our focus was on building the team that will lead Precision Pediatrics, a new genome-first clinic in Tallahassee to be replicated across North Florida and the Panhandle of Florida.

Right now, families across Florida are waiting up to 18 months for genetics appointments and traveling hours to Gainesville, Jacksonville, or Orlando for care. Soon, they’ll have access to clinical genome sequencing and advanced genetics services right here in their own backyard — a major step toward making early detection and precision care available to every child who needs it.

Ready to help build the future of pediatric genetics?

We plan to recruit 30 GCs by 2030, and have positions for new grads, mid-career, and senior GCs in clinical, research, and educational roles. At the top of our priorities is recruitment of a Program Director for our new Master’s degree program in Genetic Counseling (Job ID: 58965)
