Reema K Tawfiq

Reema graduated summa cum laude from FSU with a degree in exercise physiology. She was involved in many areas of engagement, both on and off campus. She was a member of the Minority Association of Premedical Students and its sister organization, U-SSTRIDE. Reema was also an academic leader serving as a UROP leader and FIG leader. She worked for two years at the Department of Agriculture monitoring animal feed for the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine. In addition, she worked as a representative for International Service Learning. Reema also participated in biomedical research for three years at the FSU College of Medicine and completed an honors thesis on the regulation of a critical protein that is applied to models of tumor biology. She won several awards at FSU for her research and academic merit. She traveled to various research conferences and gave multiple oral and poster presentations. Reema traveled on a medical mission trip with FSU AMWA to Costa Rica. She also shadowed an orthopedic surgeon in Tallahassee for two years. Reema chose the FSU College of Medicine because she aspires to become a physician who serves the underserved populations and emphasizes patient-centered medicine.
