The Honors Medical Scholars (HMS) program recruits students interested in medicine who demonstrate a high level of academic ability, a heart for service, and a sincere concern for vulnerable populations through volunteering. The program develops resilient and adaptable scholars, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and compassion to become medical students who reflect the values and mission of the College of Medicine with goals of becoming personally fulfilled interdependent, socially responsible individuals.

To qualify for consideration, you must have been accepted to Florida State University  and the Florida State University Honors Program. Your Honors Medical Scholars Program application will not be evaluated until you have have completed and submitted all necessary materials for the HMS application including letters of recommendation.

The application cycle for 2024 Admission
will open in August 2023.  

The overall admission process and timeline is outlined below. 

TO BE ADMITTED TO THE HONORS MEDICAL SCHOLARS (HMS) PROGRAM, you must:
1)  Be admitted to FSU as a freshman for the following fall.
2)  Apply to and be accepted by the FSU Honors Program. 
3)  Apply to the Honors Medical Scholars Program by January 15. 

  • If you are interested in the program, we encourage you to apply to HMS before the deadline to avoid a late application. You may apply to HMS when you apply to the Honors Program. 
  • Formal review of your HMS Program application occurs after you have been accepted to the FSU Honors Program.

4)  Complete an interview with the HMS program. 

  • Interviews are by invitation only.
  • Candidates will be notified of their interview in late February. 
  • Interviews are conducted in late March.
