Description

Please join us for our next free Facebook Live Workshop, “Evolving Roles of First Responders in Dementia Care: Crisis Management to Community-based Prevention” 7:00 PM-8:15 PM (Eastern Time) Thursday, May 11, 2023This workshop provides practical information about techniques for facilitating the cooperation and safety of loved ones with dementia in crisis situations. Common examples of crisis situations include wandering from the home setting, dealing with severe agitation, and obtaining assistance for emergency medical problems. First responders, Fire Chief Charles Brunner and Officer TiBria Howard, will share their firsthand experiences in negotiating crisis situations with older adults with dementia and their family caregivers. Dementia care specialist, Nicolette Castagna, will demonstrate an easy-to-use approach, known as REACH, for effective problem-solving in crisis situations. Last, Fire Chief Charles Brunner will highlight recent developments in community-based prevention of dementia-related emergencies. He also will share information about the costs of emergency medical services and how to manage them. Current and future caregivers, elder care professionals, and other interested community members are strongly encouraged to join the workshop.
