Dr. Rust's Mentee, Charles Fleischer MD who is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health, was selected for a $20,000 First-Year Assistant Professor Grant Award from the FSU Council on Research and Creativity. The First Year Assistant Professor (FYAP) award program provides assistant professors in their first year at FSU the opportunity to submit a funding proposal, simulating the external funding process. Dr. Fleischer attended the Ross University School of Medicine in Bridgetown, Barbados and completed his residency at the FSU Family Medicine Residency Lee Health in Fort Myers. The funds will support his summer 2020 project involving the practice of preventive medicine in rural Honduras. Fleischer's mentor for the project is Dr. George Rust, a family physician and Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine at the FSU College of Medicine, who also directs the Center for Medicine and Public Health.
