Dr. Leslie Beitsch, Professor and Chair of the FSU College of Medicine, Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine co-authored a paper that was selected as one of four papers of the year published by the American Journal of Public Health.

The State of the US Governmental Public Health Workforce, 2014–2017 analyzes the results of two samples of the Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey, and highlights that approximately 22% of staff at the federal or state levels were planning to retire by 2023, and 24% were considering leaving their organization for reasons other than retirement in 2020. The proportion of staff considering leaving in 2017 was 41% higher than in 2014. The authors were commended by the AJPH for sounding the alarm on a potentially dramatic loss of institutional knowledge and experienced leadership.
