About the Division
The FSU College of Medicine has a dynamic research portfolio that stretches from cellular research to the rural communities we serve. In the last five years we have experienced a rapid growth in research expenditures, faculty additions, and resources to support our research impact. The Division of Research & Graduate Programs is under the leadership of Dr. Richard Galbraith, the Interim Senior Associate Dean for Research, who is the primary liaison between the departments and the Dean, as well as the FSU Vice President for Research in all matters related to research direction, administration, and integrity. As a Carnegie I Research Institution, the university provides a rich research environment. College of Medicine faculty collaborate extensively with their colleagues across the university. With the award of the UF-FSU partnership Clinical and Translational Science Award we are continuing our investment in infrastructure such as the Network for Clinical Research, Training and Community Engagement (NCRT-CE), K Scholar Program, and Centers that support research improving the health of the Big Bend Community.
Graduate Programs and Student Research
Guided by Assistant Dean Suzanne Baker, MA, the Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences at the Florida State University College of Medicine trains students to answer important questions of medical relevance using cutting-edge approaches. We explore a wide range of research areas including: Biochemistry and Biophysics, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, Behavioral and Systems Biology.
NCRT-CE Research Support Services
Led by Dr. Ursula Weiss, the Network for Clinical Research, Training and Community Engagement (NCRT-CE) is a team of experienced research professionals who provide expertise in the development, facilitation and execution of health-related human subjects research and clinical trials.
Research Administration
Led by Assistant Dean Dr. Terra Bradley, the Division oversees pre-award research administration functions through the College of Medicine's Research Administration office (Med-RA), and provides support services and guidance on regulatory affairs, conflicts of interest, clinical trial and research agreements, and human subject research protection. The Division also produces research activity reporting, and manages annual research events, Grand Rounds, and intramural grants programs.
Translational Science Laboratory
Led by Dr. Roger Mercer, the Translational Science Laboratory is a core facility serving investigators within COM, at FSU as well throughout Florida, the US and abroad. Our primary areas of expertise are genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Multiple faculty with decades of aggregate experience in the underlying technologies assist investigators with experimental design, sample analysis and downstream data processing and interpretation.
