Strengthening HIV Care Through Innovative MI Training for Counseling Support Staff

A team led by Ivan Balan, Ph.D., published a study focused on strengthening HIV care by supporting HIV counseling support staff (CSS), who provide testing counseling, linkage to care, adherence support, and peer navigation. 

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based communication approach proven to improve health outcomes, including across the HIV Care Continuum. This study introduces iMI4HIV, an interactive, internet-based MI training program tailored for HIV CSS. It features real-world video scenarios, skill-building activities, and gamified learning, paired with a virtual MI workshop. iMI4HIV could expand access to high-quality training and help improve engagement and outcomes in HIV care.
