In September of 2024, CMPHPP members Dr. Samantha Goldfarb and Jessica Day conducted a site visit in Jacksonville, Florida where they met with the Overdose Data to Action: Limiting Overdose through Collaborative Actions in Localities (OD2A: LOCAL) partners of Florida Department of Health in Duval County (FDOH-Duval). The purpose of the OD2A: LOCAL grant, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is to reduce opioid-related morbidity and mortality through prevention and response activities in Duval County. Dr. Goldfarb and CMPHPP members (Day, Karen Geletko, Dr. Heidi Kinsell, Dr. Katelyn Graves, Dr. Affan Ghaffari, Dr. John Moore) lead the OD2A: LOCAL evaluation for FDOH-Duval. Through this grant, FDOH-Duval has partnered with local organizations to conduct ongoing opioid prevention and response activities, and the FSU team conducts semi-annual site visits to better understand and highlight those efforts. In-person site visits are an invaluable tool for conducting thorough and meaningful evaluations. They offer a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of programs and initiatives, collect richer data, and build stronger relationships with stakeholders. As one example, Goldfarb and Day met with leadership from Inspire to Rise Inc., a charitable organization focused on holistically helping make their community a better place. The Inspire to Rise Inc. team gave a walk-through of their campus and showed their inspirational mural.
