Sandy's Story
Dr. Sandy Halperin has Alzheimer's Disease, but that hasn't slowed him down. Instead, it gave him a new mission in life. Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN has spent the last several years following Dr. Halperin as he lives with the disease and advocates for research into dementia. CNN has posted the first five videos in the series, with more to be added soon.
Florida State University College of Medicine has established an Alzheimer's research fund in Dr. Halperin's name to help secure sorely needed research funds for the superb researchers, scientists, physicians and others at the College of Medicine to continue with their work to help find measures, medications, initiatives and programs that can significantly improve the lives of the millions living with dementia, including Alzheimer's, and to help support their caregivers.
"I believe that the work that is being done at the medical school will one day lead to either major cures or treatments that will help to significantly enhance the lives of those that have dementia, including Alzheimer's --- and to enhance the lives of those living with dementia and their caregivers.. My association with the medical school in this capacity gives me such added spirit to do all that I can do to help raise the funds that are needed - and this is one of the primary focuses during this chapter of my life.
