Mark Kastner

M.D. Class of 2019

Hometown: Hollywood, Fla.
Undergraduate Degree: Florida State University

Mark graduated from Florida State University with a degree in exercise science. As an undergraduate, he accumulated over 750 service hours in the areas of leadership, environmental awareness and patient care. Throughout medical school Mark has continued his passion for service by getting involved in his community. He started a campuswide competition to encourage faculty and students to stay active throughout the day. After he planned, organized and facilitated the program, a total of 96 participants walked 17,084,690 steps throughout the month. Mark actively seeks ways to incorporate his medical education into community programming. He organized a campaign that raised over $1,000 to build "MEDipacks" that were stuffed with health-care-related items and handed out to the local homeless population. Over 150 of the packs were made and then stuffed with items such as wound care products, sunscreen, bug spray, educational information and much more. He stays involved with health care policy nationally through the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association and the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association. In addition to working hard clinically and academically, Mark strives to stay involved at a local and national level as well as continue educating on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
