Stephanie Figueira

M.D. Class of 2019

Hometown: Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Undergraduate Degree: Florida State University
Graduate Degree: MA Loyola University Chicago

Stephanie Figueira received her undergraduate degree from Florida State University in 2013, majoring in biological sciences. She conducted research in the field of molecular biology, specifically on the Epstein-Barr virus. She was greatly involved in Dance Marathon, the largest student-run service organization on campus, raising awareness and funds for children needing medical care that is otherwise unavailable to them locally. Stephanie gained valuable medical experience volunteering at a public hospital in the rural town of Lagoa Santa, Brazil, which fueled her desire to address issues of socioeconomic status and cultural disparities in health care. She received her Master of Arts in Medical Sciences degree from Loyola University Chicago in 2015. While living in Chicago, she became an active volunteer at the Old Irving Park Community Clinic, providing free care for underserved populations. Experiencing firsthand the lack of access to health care, and growing up with an uninsured family, Stephanie was drawn to the FSU College of Medicine's unique mission to provide patient-centered health care to the underserved.
