Undergraduate Degree: Florida State University

Bruce Ferraro graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science and minors in biological sciences and chemistry. At FSU Bruce was actively involved with the American Medical Student Association and International Medical Outreach (IMO). During his mission trip through IMO he assisted with health care provision to underserved areas in Haiti. The following year as the International Medical Outreach director Bruce led seven students on a mission trip to Jamaica. He also worked in Dr. Lei Zhu’s research group in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. His primary work focused on synthesizing cholesterol fluorescent derivatives that were used for biological zinc imaging. Bruce enjoyed volunteering with both Progressive Pediatrics of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Alzheimer’s Project. Volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Project respite program on Fridays was especially important to him after his grandmother was diagnosed with the disease at the beginning of his time at FSU. Outside of school, Bruce enjoys fitness, being outdoors and following the Philadelphia Eagles. He chose the Florida State University College of Medicine because of the emphasis on patient-centered care and the strong sense of community at the school.
