Edwin C Cavannaugh IV

Class of 2018

Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla.
Graduate Degree: University of South Florida

Edwin (better known as Corey) graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in biomedical sciences and a minor in public health. While in school, he spent much of his spare time volunteering and working in various student affairs roles: admissions representative, resident assistant, health peer educator, orientation team leader and chemistry tutor. These positions allowed Corey to branch out and explore ways to impact his college campus and surrounding community. He also participated in his school's alternative spring break program for two years. He spent his first trip in Texas and served as a camp counselor at a horse therapy camp for children with disabilities, while he led his trip the very next year as he worked in various homeless shelters in Atlanta. Both experiences as well as those he had working as a certified nursing assistant while in high school cemented his goal of wanting to become a physician. Being raised in a small rural area helped him in recognizing the struggles of social determinants affecting health care. He chose Florida State University because of its mission to serve the underserved and its focus on lifelong learning and patient-centered care.
