College of Medicine

Welcome to the new Florida State University College of Medicine Family Medicine Residency Program at BayCare Health System (Winter Haven)! On behalf of the entire staff, I want to thank you for your interest in our developing program.

Our mission is to provide a dynamic, professional learning environment, grounded in the concepts of life-long learning, teaching, compassion, quality improvement, evidence-based medicine, and scholarship. We provide a broad-based program of graduate medical education in multiple clinical disciplines designed to facilitate the choice of and preparation for a specialty or in preparation for general medical practice.

Located in the beautiful lake country of Central Florida, the Winter Haven area is well-known for its beautiful chains of lakes and close-knit community. The area has numerous biking trails, easy access to lakes for boating, fishing, and water skiing, sports facilities, cultural events, colleges, and universities. The best of big city amenities are located a short distance away in both Orlando and Tampa without having to fight the daily traffic. Disney and Universal are just 30 miles to the east and both the Gulf and Atlantic beaches are a short trip away!

I am excited to serve as the Program Director alongside our outstanding faculty who are dedicated to our residents and patients. We are fortunate to have the resources of two mission-driven organizations aiming to improve the health of Central Florida: the Florida State University College of Medicine and BayCare Health System. We will provide an excellent academic training environment for Transitional Year residents by maximizing patient care and didactic time without overnight call. Our aim is to create a strong foundational general medicine program that does not neglect resident wellbeing.
