William Stross, M.D., and Staci Biegner (M.D., ’17) married in an intimate backyard ceremony during the coronavirus pandemic and were surprised by a parade of cars fully decorated for the celebration with their family and friends who were unable to attend the ceremony due to the social distancing restrictions. Tamra Travers, M.D., completed a fellowship in faculty development at Ventura County (Calif.) Medical Center and teaches full-spectrum family medicine in the medical center’s family medicine residency program. Joah Aliancy, M.D., completed an ocular pathology research fellowship at the University of Utah immediately after graduation. He won first place from the National Medical Association for a poster presentation on artificial lens opacification complications. Later he received a research award from the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. This fall he’s scheduled to become the first African-American resident in ophthalmology at Columbia University’s Harkness Eye Institute. Posted 7.16.18.
Sarah (Avila) Crowley, M.D., has been appointed chief resident this year at the Surgery Residency Program at the University of California at Davis. Posted 8.7.18.
Kristen Dimas, M.D., has been named chief resident for the 2018-2019 year at the FSU College of Medicine Family Residency Program at Lee Health in Fort Myers. Posted 7.16.18.
Cesar Garcia-Canet, M.D., MPH, graduated with a Master’s in Public Health (M.P.H.) from The George Washington University School of Public Health in Washington, D.C. this past summer. He is currently a pediatric resident at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Ga. Posted 4.1.18.
Makandall Saint Eloi, M.D., finished his family medicine residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami as chief resident and accepted an academic/clinical faculty position in pediatric pulmonology at Seattle Children’s Hospital. He co-created Driven, a foundation to give at-risk youth access to mentorship or ideas about jobs, education and goals. Makandall also volunteers with Love Our Nation and Tailored Fitness educating youth on the importance of health and staying active. This summer he presented at the World Congress for Integrating Behavioral Health and Primary Care Models. He’s conducting a pipeline research project through Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.
