Educational Conferences
Fellows have dedicated time throughout the year for:
- Monthly didactics – topics range from surgical management, neoadjuvant therapy, systemic and local therapies, and emerging therapeutics for the spectrum of GI cancers; management of IBDs; biostatistics and design of clinical trials; to establishing a successful GI practice.
- Monthly Surgical Morbidity & Mortality Conferences
- Journal Club (held quarterly)
- Weekly Tumor Boards
- Grand Rounds
Educational Goals
The goal of this program is to produce outstanding surgeons that are experts in the field of complex gastrointestinal surgery and minimally invasive surgical techniques. To that end, the program provides fellows with extensive surgical training and clinical experience under the mentorship and close supervision of faculty. Rotations cover Advanced GI/HPB, Research, Colorectal, and Robotics.
By the end of the fellowship year, fellows will also be equipped with the knowledge and experience required to successfully establish independent practice.
Resources
The Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute is home to an advanced medical library that serves as a comprehensive research and reference database. The institute also houses a state-of-the-art simulation lab used to recreate a variety of scenarios with which to train in a controlled setting. Simulated environments include an expansive Operating Room, Intensive Cre Unit, Emergency Care Center, and a Trauma Center.
