Community Resources:

2-1-1 Big Bend | Call 2-1-1 or (850) 617-6333, or visit the website for help navigating through the maze of community services available locally.  Their human service referral database is comprehensive and up-to-date. There is no eligibility criteria and services are free. Skilled hotline counselors can also provide confidential emotional support and crisis counseling 24 hours a day. 

Capital Area Red Cross | The American Red Cross provides shelter and assistance information in the case of a natural disaster, flood, or fire, as well as emergency preparedness training.

City Parks, Centers, and Athletics | The City of Tallahassee offers a wide variety of beautiful parks, fun activities and lessons, adult and child athletics programs, swimming instruction, and more. Go to talgov.com and view the drop-down menu under “Play” for an overview of these resources. The City also has an email subscription service available to get announcement and event information emails.

Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend | Family support services include pre-school tuition assistance programs (VPK), child care information services, and community referrals.

Florida Bar Association – A wealth of valuable consumer information is also available on their website. This association also has an attorney referral service available that provides half-hour legal consultations with a qualified attorney for a fee of $25. Additional fees for further services would be discussed at the consultation. This is a reliable source for identifying an attorney for issues such as lease disagreements, accidents, misdemeanor offenses, or preparing a will.

Leon County Public Schools | Information on Kindergarten through 12th grade school zones, school grades, school registration requirements, school choice and magnet programs, and the school calendar can be obtained on their website.

Second Harvest of the Big Bend Food Pantry | Second Harvest is the primary food bank serving Tallahassee and the surrounding Big Bend region. Through a network of partner agencies, food pantries, and community programs, it provides nutritious meals to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. In addition to food distribution, Second Harvest supports programs for children, seniors, and disaster relief.
