Here’s how the Great Give works:

This Thursday and Friday (April 14-15), the FSU Foundation is asking all supporters of Florida State University — alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends — to make a gift.

The FSU College of Medicine has around 30 medical student organizations, which are funded by MedSHOTS. It’s an acronym for Medical Students Helping Others Thru Service. These are the organizations:

  • Allopathic Integrative Medicine (AIM)
  • American Medical Association / Florida Medical Association
  • American Medical Student Association (AMSA)
  • American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA)
  • Association of Latino Medical Students (ALMS)
  • Biomedical Science Graduate Student Association
  • Business and Medicine (BAM)
  • Christian Medical Association (CMA)
  • Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG)
  • Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)
  • Family Medicine Scholars
  • Florida Rural Health Association (FRHA) - Medical Student Chapter
  • FSUCares
  • Gays, Lesbians, and Allies Advancing Medicine (GLAAM)
  • Geriatrics Interest Group (GIG)
  • Health and Law Organization (HALO)
  • Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG)
  • MEDgear
  • Medical Student Council (MSC)
  • Military Medicine Interest Group (MMIG)
  • Multicultural Association of Pre-Med Students (MAPS)
  • Nutrition, Exercise, and Wellness Organization (NEW)
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology Interest Group
  • Pediatric Interest Group (PIG)
  • Psychiatry Student Interest Group (PSIG)
  • Sports Medicine Interest Group (SMIG)
  • Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN)
  • Student National Medical Association (SNMA)
  • Students Interested in Global Health (SIGH)
  • Surgery and Anesthesiology Interest Group (SAIG)
  • Wilderness Medical Society (WMS)

If the Great Give provides the money that MedSHOTS is seeking, then these busy medical students can spend less time fundraising and more time actually providing service to our community’s underserved populations. If you can give, that’s great.
