Dr. Fleischer Receives Inaugural NSF Award
Congratulations to Dr. Charles Fleischer, co-Principal Investigator and Assistant Professor in the FSU College of Medicine, on receiving his first National Science Foundation (NSF) grant award! The $192,927 award supports a collaborative research project titled "C2H2 EAGER Collaborative Research: Explore a model-data framework to advance predictions of red tide and its impact on respiratory illnesses under changing temperature."
Dr. Fleischer is working alongside Principal Investigator Dr. Ming Ye of Florida State University and co-collaborator Dr. Ahmed Elshall of Florida Gulf Coast University to develop predictive tools for understanding how environmental factors like temperature shifts influence red tide events and related public health impacts.
The award was officially accepted on July 14, 2025, and marks an important step forward in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of geosciences and medicine. We celebrate Dr. Fleischer’s achievement and look forward to the innovative contributions this project will bring!
