What do you like about HMSS?
My favorite part of HMSS is the community. This program surrounds me with other pre-medical students who have the same aspirations and dreams that I do. The other members of HMSS also want to help those in need and do everything in their power to make a difference in healthcare. In addition to the other HMSS members, the program introduces me to many members of the community who have already made an impact on my life. Through things like service projects and guest speakers, I have been fortunate enough to meet some very inspiring people who remind me why I'm working to become a physician.
Why do you want to go into medicine?
For as long as I can remember, science has been my favorite subject. While I always felt drawn to medicine, I became passionate about the field after being exposed to a free healthcare clinic in my hometown. After seeing first-hand the disparities in healthcare present in my own town, I have never seen medicine in the same way. I developed a dream of opening my own clinic that would provide those in need with free or reduced healthcare to allow anyone and everyone to receive the care they need, despite financial, cultural, or other situations. I want to become a physician to provide healthcare to everyone and do my best to make a positive impact on their lives. I want to support patients and their families through difficult times and be remembered as the physician who cared. I want to work hard to find treatments for those who have been told there is no solution and improve the lives of others, even if only in a small way.
